One Jiyang Lake: A Modern Spiritual Residence

Designers Feng Guoqiang and Chen Yan Create a Tranquil Zen-Inspired Villa

The villa's design is unique due to its location within a townhouse setting, where buildings are in close proximity and private garden space is limited. Despite these constraints, Feng Guoqiang and Chen Yan have managed to create a serene environment that offers privacy and tranquility. The designers have used natural materials such as bamboo for the garden's exterior wall, and white latex paint for the interior walls, ensuring simplicity and ease of maintenance.

The villa spans 535 square meters internally, with a 200 square meter garden. The design team, which included Chen Yan and Feng Yicheng, faced several challenges during the project. One significant hurdle was the absence of an elevator in the original four-story villa design. The team had to redesign the space to include an elevator and a new staircase, ensuring functionality without compromising on comfort and accessibility.

The villa's layout is thoughtfully designed to cater to the needs of the residents. The basement houses a wine tasting area, guest room, living room, and a small sunken garden. The first floor is dedicated to family public spaces, including a living room, dining room, tea room, kitchen, and garden. The second and third floors are bedroom areas, each equipped with small outdoor gardens.

The design of One Jiyang Lake is a testament to the designers' ability to blend contemporary and oriental aesthetics. The villa, located in Southern China, uses Zen Buddhism theories to create a simple, quiet, and comfortable living space. The design language mirrors that of high-quality Italian modern furniture, further enhancing the villa's contemporary appeal.

One Jiyang Lake's design excellence was recognized with a Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. The villa, with its unique blend of tranquility and modernity, certainly fits this description.
